Over the several decades that Harold Smith performed with the local Bluegrass group East Virginia Pickin' co-producer Harold Smith had the opportunity to share stages with some of the legendary stars of the genre. He performed with Bill Monroe, The Country Gentlemen, Lester Flatt, and plenty of others. After the resurgent interest in Bluegrass music due to the dramatic success of O' Brother, Where Art Thou, Harold had the opportunity to introduce Ralph Stanley to a packed crowd at Norfolk’s Town Point Park. Last year, Harold released his memoir entitled A Reflection Over Seven Decades of Bluegrass Music. The book details remembrances and conversations that Harold had during his stoic career. This week, listen to some of the artists that Harold knew and played with in a program entitled “Friends I Met Along the Way.” Tune in to hear some of the stories and most importantly, the songs, of these defining stars of Bluegrass.
