This year, WHRV's Paul Shugrue, host of Out of the Box, and Jae Sinnett, host of Sinnett in Session, attended this year's Veer Magazine awards on Tueday, February 13, at the Waterside District in Downtown Norfolk. 

Veer Magazine, a Hampton Roads arts, culture, and entertainment publication, presented awards in 34 categories to local artists. The awards ranged from best in hip-hop and R&B, to indie rock and country. Both Shugrue and Sinnett were invited to vote for their favorites out of 320 nominees, along with other local music experts, like Kyle Bloom, producer of The Hampton Roads Show, and Mike Holtzclaw, music reporter for The Daily Press.

Sinnett, was nominated for "Best in Jazz" and won with his ensemble, "Zero to 60 Quartet". A producer and host of WHRV-FM 89.5 for over 25 years, Sinnett has also taught jazz at the Governors School of the Arts in Norfolk and Christopher Newport University in Newport News. He hosts the two shows on WHRV-FM: The R&B Chroniclces on Friday nights at 7p.m. and Sinnett in Session, the best variety in jazz, Monday through Thursday and Sunday afternoons.

Shugrue, won the award for "Best Media Promoting Local Music", which included tv, radio, and online media. An avid lover of rock music, Shugrue previously served as Program Director and afternoon host at The Coast, a now defunct rock station that offered adult rock. He now hosts, Out of the Box, a radio show dedicated to various genres like alternative, reggae, electronica and more, Monday through Thursday and Saturday afternoons on WHRV-FM.
