Buddha Council is a five piece reggae outfit from Hampton Roads whose third album “True Love” throbs with rhythmic intensity and psychedelia and doesn’t let up until they get their message of positivity and togetherness across.

The album’s title refers to a karmic coincidence: two of the band members had grandfathers who were survivors of the Bataan death march in WWII. They draw inspiration from the two men’s resilience, one of whom had “True Love” tattooed on his knuckles while a prisoner.

With John Quan’s falsetto blasting through each song’s rootsy rhythms, and funky guitars and organ fills, Buddha Council touches on politics, romance and, their ultimate goal, making their audience feel part of the communal experience.

Through their healthy rhythms and provocative lyrics Buddha council make their unique contribution to the evolution of reggae with the album “True Love.” Their authentic take on the genre, more proof of the burgeoning Hampton Roads music scene.
