Have you ever wondered what the inspiration was behind a song, how a painter came up with an idea, or what that photographer saw just before capturing a shot? Whether you are an art enthusiast, culture vulture, or just inquisitive, Curate, our multimedia program, brings you intimate conversations with the people who create art. Hampton Roads is home to a vibrant and thriving art scene. On any given day, you can find a mural in progress, a poetry slam contest, or various arts shows throughout our seven cites. WHRO is proud to spotlight local emerging artists, seasoned professionals as well as established arts organizations and visiting national artists in our region.

Each week, the program features a local artist, along with artists from across the country, who work in a variety of mediums. Each episode is arranged around a central theme and offers a compelling look at artists and their creations. Our features are shared nationally to 30 PBS stations through a content co-op, expanding our reach beyond Hampton Roads.

This season we are thrilled to present artists recommended by members of the community, as well as national artists that created commissioned works specifically for Hampton Roads. We have also continued our partnership with the Old Dominion University Cinema Department and will be showcasing the student filmmakers’ work throughout various episodes this season.

We hope you enjoy our weekly journey through the arts and please, let us know what you think. Visit whro.org/curate.
