This week, WHRO’s Classical Open Mic comes to the beach! We’re delighted to be bringing this popular event to the Zeider’s American Dream Theater (aka “The Z”) in the Virginia Beach Town Center. This intimate black box theater will be a perfect venue to enjoy great music in a relaxed, friendly setting. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase, and of course there are also many restaurants nearby if you’d like to make an evening of it with dinner before the show!

Wayla Chambo, the announcer for WHRO-FM’s Afternoon Delights and a professional flutist, will be your host for the evening. Previous Classical Open Mics have featured a variety of local musicians ranging from young students to professionals, performing music from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods, and by today’s contemporary composers. If you’d like to perform, you can reserve a slot ahead of time by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or calling 757-889-9474. You are also welcome to show up that night and play if we have room in the lineup.

And if you’re not a musician, we hope you will come and listen! Enjoy a fun evening of music while sipping on your favorite beverage and showing your support for our wonderful local performers. (We will also have trivia questions with prizes, so study up on your classical music history!) This family-friendly event is free and open to all, made possible by the support of WHRO members.

See you there on Friday, February 9, at 7 p.m.
