Beabadoobee’s second album “Beatopia” is quite different from her debut in 2020. That album featured her performing with a full band for the first time and was heavlily influenced by her affinity for 90’s rock. On the new album she returns to her bedroom pop roots that made her a viral hit on her first recording at 17 years old. Five years later and with much more experience and studio chops the new album has a confidence that makes it endearing.

Beatopia is the imaginary world Bea Kristi created when she was a child and wanted to escape the discrimination she endured being the only Filipino student at her school. She recreates that world as a musical sanctuary sharing her deepest feelings, new ideas, and pays tribute to her favorite music.

With the exception of a couple of rockers, most of the album is built around moving beyond her low fi beginnings and elegantly using her new found prowess with chamber pop sounds.

Kristi’s partnership with her guitarist Jacob Bugden, who co-wrote almost every song is a dynamic that defiines the album, with their perfect vocal interplay. The "Beatopia" universe is hazy, narcotic, sugary sweet, intimate and sensational all at the same time.
