From the CEO - July 2022

If the heat outside gets to be too much, head inside and watch some of the great programs we have in store for you this month. In our C inema 15 Classics series, we have a fun lineup of nostalgic films including Li fe with Father (July 7), The Lavender Hill Mob (July 14), Beat the Devil (July 21) and The Divorce of Lady X (July 28). I don't know if you have checked out this film collection yet or not, but there are some great treasures from the golden age of Hollywood here. You can see one of these films every Thursday at 9 p.m. on WHRO TV and it replays on Fridays at 3:30 p.m. And, if you have WHRO Passport, you can watch any film from the collection anytime you want! See all the films at whro.org/cinema15classics

We also have programs to keep the kids entertained while they are out of school. Our Facebook series, Ms. Martha Reads, continues to be popular with parents and their children. Ms. Martha has been reading a brand new batch of stories from this year's winners of our Young Storytellers Contest. This popular program is now a podcast, so you can listen to these fun stories anywhere. Visit whro.org/msmarthareads to hear the stories, and check out pages 10-12 to see this year's group of winners. We also have our animated children's series GreenBeats available online at whro.org/greenbeats This series of 10 short videos helps children learn about the environment and how they can help take care of it.

In other news, I'm also pleased to announce the expansion of our journalism efforts with the hiring of Chris Tyree and Lou Hanson. Tyree and Hanson will provide investigative reporting for Virginia's Center for Investigative Journalism at WHRO. And speaking of great broadcasting and news reporting, WHRO Public Media recently won several awards from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters for Best Radio Personality, Best Investigative Reporting, Best Human Interest Series and more. The station also won 15 Telly Awards! We were awarded two gold, nine silver and four bronze awards. See the full list of winners at whro.org/awards Congratulations to everyone involved in these great efforts!

Lastly, thank you to everyone who donated during last month's television membership drive. It is your generosity that makes our work possible. Thank you for your continued support.
