State of the Media: A Public Discussion Forum

State of the Media: A Public Discussion Forum
The Hampton University Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications in partnership with the Pulitzer Center and state and national media outlets is hosting a “State of the Media” public discussion forum on April 23, 2025. The purpose is to hold a critical conversation on the future of American news media with national television executives, editors, journalists and other media professionals.
With the increasing distrust in American media, and the rise of news being generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI), now more than ever, every journalist and media professional must be able to discuss issues, think creatively about the industry’s future, and chart a positive way forward. As journalists, we are storytellers. We have a responsibility to report the truth, which is dependent upon our ability to become aware of the current environment, and share with the public.
Panelists will share their insights on the state of American media – where it stands now, where it is heading, and what needs to be done to prepare and survive in a rapidly changing environment. Panelists will also provide advice to aspiring journalists and encourage them to remain hopeful and become vigilant professionals preparing for an unprecedented future.
