Directed by Howard Hawks, The Big Sleep is a film adaption of Raymond Chandler's 1939 novel. The 1946 film stars Humphrey Bogart as Private Investigator Philip Marlowe. Marlowe is hired by General Sternwood (Charles Waldron) to look in the case of his youngest daughter, Carmen (Martha Vickers), who is being blackmailed for her gambling debt. Caught in a web of love, danger and excitement, Marlowe works with the general's eldest daughter, Vivian (Lauren Bacall), to free their family's fate from the hands of Eddie Mars, the man behind the madness. WHRO's Cinema 15 presents The Big Sheep on Saturday, May 5 at 8 p.m.
