Eliza Gillkyson has designed her new album “2020” like a collection of political anthems to be sung along to at rallies, social assemblies or, as it turns out, in the shelter of our own homes

Each song was recorded with the presidential election in mind but many seem like an eerie foreshadowing of the health crisis. She laments the state of our politics and social order while providing hope that we have the power to change it.

Alongside her originals are covers of songs by Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger that actually have been sung by crowds at political gatherings. There’s even a letter from Woody Guthrie that has been put to music attacking Donald Trump’s father for his segregationist policies.

She wraps up the album with a brilliant song about how there is comfort in our voices that allows us to face our fears through solidarity. So sing along and feel the unity!
