Katie Crutchfield’s band Waxahatchee sets off on a new course for the album “St. Cloud.” The thirty three year old singer-songwriter has fully embraced a sober lifestyle and an Americana direction that has resulted in the best album of her career.

Many artists have used drugs and alcohol to inspire them, but Crutchfield has done the opposite. Drawing inspiration from a new clear-headedness she examines her own obsessions and vices and what it means to be evolving musically and as a human being.

Waxahatchee has been recording since 2012, usually with a distorted, lofi, electric band as her backup.  With the new album she completes the conversion that began with her acoustic ep from 2018. The music shimmers and is the perfect accompaniment to her southern drawl.

Like the pick-up truck she poses on for the album’s cover, Waxahatchee’s "St. Cloud" takes the listener down the rural backroads of her experiences and from these stories, she finds a new way to carry on.
