Tenor Frederick Ballentine grew up in Norfolk and attended The Governor's School for the Arts (GSA), where he fell in love with opera. This season, he made his debut at The Metropolitan Opera with the role of Sportin' Life in their new production of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.

You can hear Wayla's interview with Frederick this Friday at 5:15 p.m. on WHRO FM, and then tune in Saturday at 1 p.m. to hear him sing in the Met's live radio broadcast of Porgy and Bess.

Another GSA alum, Chesapeake native Aundi Marie Moore, will also be heard in Porgy and Bess, singing the role of the Strawberry Woman.

Saturday’s performance will also be broadcast live in movie theaters as part of the 19/20 Met: Live in HD season.
