The winter nights here in Hampton Roads can get mighty cold, so Out of the Box has come up with a way to warm you up—free concerts every week by some of the area's brightest musical stars! The mission of Out of the Box is to play the newest releases by rock, Americana, and blues artists, especially those made by performers in our own backyard.

Every year we host live concerts by the musicians who have distinguished themselves by releasing superb recordings that were played on Out of the Box during the previous year. Each Thursday night from early January to early March, I broadcast Out of the Box from the Sandler Center and feature on-air live performances from each act, interspersed with all the recorded music that I play every night. You can not only hear these artists on the radio, you can see them live on stage in the intimate confines of the Miller Theater inside the Sandler Center.

Over the past six years we've seen concerts from artists like Seth Stainback & Roosterfoot, Fox and the Bear, Anthony Rosano & the Conqueroos, Mike Aiken, and The Last Bison. The series won the Veer Magazine local music award for outstanding concert series in 2019.

The audiences we've seen at past shows have been so receptive of the artistry of the acts that each week the Miller Theater is transformed into a real listening room. The artists play mostly original songs, so just by attending these free shows you’re showing your support for the local music scene. We hope to warm up some of those cold winter nights in 2020 with great music! Check out the lineup.
