J Mascis is the longtime frontman for Dinosaur Jr. and records as a solo aritist in between their albums. Most of his solo albums have been recorded acoustically, the antithesis of Dinosaur jr, but on his new album “What Do We Do Now” he combines the two approaches,

Laying acoustic guitars under his trademark electric riffs while his signature slacker vocals sound better than ever, Mascis delves into themes of uncertainty and existential questioning like he could not have done with his other band.  

He puts together melody and noise in a way no one else does. These songs are not stripped down but built from an acoustic base with keyboards and drums to flesh them out and more electric guitar than on his previous solo efforts.
