Sadly, 2023 saw the loss of several greats in the Bluegrass world. This week, host Harold Smith returns to the program to feature stories and music of these artists including the legendary Bobby Osborne, who with his brother Bobby, helped fuel a second generation of musicians in the 1950s and 60s. Also, music from Jesse McReynolds, who along with his brother Jim was one of the most popular duos in the genre. And, while not a musician, but equally important in the industry was Birchmere owner and operator Gary Oelze, who passed away this year at age 80. He turned the Alexandria, Virginia venue into one of the greatest bluegrass establishments in the country and helped turn the DC area into a hotbed of music featuring artists such as the Seldom Scene, The Country Gentlemen, and Del McCoury. Tune in for a look back and remembrance of these legendary figures in Bluegrass. Sunday night on Pickin' on 89.5 FM. You can also stream it live online.
