This Week on The Acoustic Highway, we’ll feature songs from the legendary Bruce Springsteen 1982 release “Nebraska.” The album was a radical departure for the rocker, who had emerged into superstardom just a few years earlier with “The River.” Nebraska’s songs were dark, somber, and told stories of difficult times facing blue-collar workers, criminals, and those, simply down on their luck.  Critics said it was a turning point in Springsteen’s career. Rolling Stone Magazine hailed Nebraska as a “Masterpiece” and ranked it as one of the greatest albums ever. The album also was included in the 2005 book “1001 Albums You Must Listen to Before You Die.”  Countless artists have covered the songs on Nebraska and currently, Aoife O Donovan has been touring with a set list that covers the entire album. In 2000, a tribute titled “Badlands: A Tribute To Bruce Sprinsgteen’s Nebraska” was issued with artists like Ben Harper, Dar Williams, and Johnny Cash all contributing covers to it. Nebraska remains as the greatest of the Springsteen catalogue.

Tune in to hear why I have said that Nebraska is my all-time favorite release, on the Highway. Sunday Night at 9 on 89.5 FM
