Richmond, Virginia’s Lucy Dacus has released her second album, “Historian” and, as good as her debut was, the 22 year-old’s music has grown by leaps and bounds and her understated confidence makes this an album that will be noticed all over the world.

Dacus grew up in Richmond and uses her own experiences in the songs, not in a confessional kind of way, but more like chapters of a novel where each song is a story that slowly builds to an eventual climax.

While her songs bash their way through each musical rise, She never raises her voice to a scream as might be appropriate in some places but lets her lush vocals ride above the mix no matter how turbulent.

Dacus collabortates with multi-instrumentalist, Jacob Blizard who fills in the arragements with string and horn parts. The songs on “Historian” are about mortality and time and the story-teller dramtically frames her narrative to draw us in to one of the best albums of the year.
