Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January, 27, 1756. That would make him 262 years old this year. His full name was Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart. He and his sister (Maria Anna Mozart) travelled Europe as very young children to perform, starting the young Wolfgang on his musical career early in life. Leopold Mozart, his father, was a composer and musician himself, but once the young Mozart’s talent became evident Leopold focused less on his own compositions and more on his son’s career.

Mozart was a composer who has always been remembered as a jokester. Watch the movie Amadeus and try not to laugh along with Mozart! He was a child prodigy; as a child he would play the keyboard upside down even! The famous story about his opera Don Giovanni is that the overture for the opera wasn’t written until the day it premiered! Mozart was a musician that broke the rules a little; he wasn’t quiet and well-behaved. There were many sides and personalities to this man. And that is why he is so well loved still today. He can never be seen as dull. His melodies are sublime, even the simplest of Mozart’s melodies can prove to be earworms for days!

Mozart is the most performed composer still to this day. For musicians we are always obsessed with Mozart, we are always happy to play more of his work. Mozart has a special place in all musician’s hearts, and we all have a different reason. We all have a favorite Mozart story and we hope you do too! Celebrate his life along with us!
