Pickin' on WHRV this week features another in our pinnacle series- artists at their absolute peak in performance. Don Reno and Red Smiley were one of the most acclaimed duos in country and bluegrass music in the 1950s and 60s. They were well known in Virginia and for years hosted a morning television show based out of Roanoke. They stopped performing together in the late 60s but reunited in 1971 for a recording titled “Together Again.” Sadly, Red Smiley passed away a short time after its release. Today, Reno and Smiley are fondly remembered as a defining duo for the genre of bluegrass. Tune in for the music of Reno and Smiley.
