This week, Pickin' on WHRV and the Acoustic Highway pay tribute to the legendary Ian Tyson. The prolific songwriter passed away on December 29th. His early career centered around a duo he created with Sylvia Fricker. Ian and Sylvia became major stars during the great folk boom of the early sixties. They performed at the Newport Folk Festival and their signature song "Four Strong Winds " was named the greatest Canadian song of all time. They are credited with helping launch the career of fellow Canadian Gordon Lightfoot. Tyson's "Summer Wages" has been covered multiple times and is hailed as one of the greatest Western songs ever. Bluegrass pioneer JD Crowe included it in the iconic Rounder 0044 released in 1975. Ian Tyson was simply one of the greatest songwriters ever.

Tune in Sunday night beginning at 7 for a special remembrance.
