Seth Avett loves Greg Brown’s songs and he wants you to love them too. "Seth Avett Sings Greg Brown" is the Avett Brother’s tribute to an artist he first heard when he was 15 years old and has been one of his musical guiding lights since

Avett’s only other solo album is a tribute to Elliott Smith so this deep dive into Brown’s music is something he’s comfortable with. Brown is a cult singer songwriter who has been recording since 1980 with a deep baritone that Avett could not hope to emulate, so he plays the songs effortlessly in his own familiar voice.

Avett says “This is a man who put forty records out because he had to, he made his own record label. He's a world-class artist who did it all under the radar, which is just mind-blowing to me.”

The comfort Avett takes in these songs is obvious, they were recorded in hotel rooms across the country for the last two years on his days off and he says of the album, “I just hope listeners get an introduction to Greg Brown, I hope it’s a bridge into a place that otherwise perhaps they wouldn’t have walked into."
