Johnson Mountain Boys

In 1975 Dudley Connell and a friend established a Bluegrass duo called The Johnsons, but that band disbanded after the boys learned of another band by the same name. By 1978, a group rechristened The Johnson Mountain Boys had formed, and they went on to become one of the most successful groups through the late 1970s and 80s. Connell later formed the Bluegrass super group Longview and he worked with the legendary Hazel Dickens. Long disbanded, their music is still widely revered by bluegrass music fans. This week, Pickin on WHRV producer Harold Smith features the music and history of the Johnson Mountain Boys, Sunday evening at 7:00 on 89.5 FM.
