Again this year we will be airing concert recordings from the Virginia Symphony Orchestra on WHRO-FM, WHRJ, and WHRF. WHRO is proud to partner with the Virginia Symphony to present these special broadcasts of our fine local orchestra in performance. Join host Raymond Jones for the first VSO broadcast of this season on Wednesday, November 1, starting at 9:00 p.m. The concert, recorded in September, features Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”, Grammy-winning bassist and Newport News native Victor Wooten as soloist in “The Bass Whisperer”, co-written by Wooten and Conni Ellisor, and “Quantum Flight” by Randall Svane. JoAnn Falletta conducted this diverse program that opened the VSO’s 2017-18 season. Hear it again, or for the first time, this Wednesday evening on 90.3 WHRO-FM.
