Bonny Light Horseman is a trio of solo artists who have followed up their first album of traditional folk covers  with a new album, “Rolling Golden Holy” all original songs that have the same timeless appeal of the first album.

Anaïs Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson and Josh Kaufman have said that they wanted their second album to explore the boundary between traditional and modern folk music and their rustic, southern California style with a mix of acoustic and electric instruments makes this an album of songs that could have been written a hundred years ago.

Like many traditional songs, Bonny Light Horsemen’s new songs feature desperately sad lyrics surrounded by bright harmonies, languid guitar runs and upbeat instrumentation.

Anais Mitchell has already released one stellar album this year and on this collection her newest songs shine through even brighter. This is a band that has found their niche with modern folk music that is ageless and rooted in today at the same time.
