Pickin' on WHRV this week brings you music from the Johnson Mountain Boys. Formed in the 1970s in the thriving Washington, D.C., Bluegrass music scene, they quickly established a rabid following with performances at the prestigious venues like Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Grand Ole Opry. They recorded on both The Rounder and Cooper Creek record labels. They were nominated for several Grammy and IBMA Awards. Upon disbanding in 1996, their members would go on to join numerous other bands including The Lynn Morris Band, Rhonda Vincent, Blue Highway, and Springfield Exit. Fiddle player Eddie Stubbs would later go on to become the announcer for the Grand Ole Opry. Tune in for the dynamic traditional sound of the Johnson Mountain Boys, Sunday at 7 p.m. on 89.5 FM.
