Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ make time stand still on their new album “Cool It Down.” It’s been over nine years since their last release but Karen O and her band make it seem like yesterday and their amazing new album is just a natural step in a new direction.

With powerful electronic production and Karen O’s off kilter vocals they sound genuinely energized and their controlled chaos gives the feeling of being comfortable within your own skin while the world around you goes up in flames.

In one of the songs her spoken word vocal creates a kind of beat poetry vibe and her lyrics, like all eight songs on the album, speak to the listener with earnestness and releateablility.  

A lot has happened in the nine years since their last album and Yeah Yeah Yeahs’s response is to release one of the best albums they’ve ever recorded with their dark, manic musings on what has been going on. It’s a rare occurrence for a band to make such a triumphant return.
