On WHRO FM Wednesday evening at 9:00, A Local Touch - Music With a Virginia Connection pays tribute to those who lost their lives during Friday’s tragedy in Virginia Beach, and also salutes those first responders who fearlessly put themselves in the line of fire to save further lives. Raymond Jones is your host for three hours of music including Stephen Melillo’s “Without Warning,” Dr. Adolphus Hailstork’s “To Those Who Serve” with Virginia Beach’s own Symphonicity conducted by Daniel Boothe, the Williamsburg Presbyterian Chancel Choir singing Amazing Grace, and the Continental Army Band rendering John Williams’ “To the Fallen.” Also on the program is harpist Barbara Chapman with “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need,” the Old Dominion University Chorus joining Symphonicity and their chorus in “Libera Me” from the Verdi Requiem; Randall Thompson’s “Mass of the Holy Spirit;” the Adagio Trio playing Gounod’s “Ave Maria;” and the Virginia Symphony under JoAnn Falletta in the Requiem by Hector Berlioz.
