On this week’s 'Pickin', we hear from one of the founding duos in Bluegrass music. Flatt and Scruggs emerged in 1948 from Bill Monroe’s band and would become one the most popular artists of the genre. They appeared at Carneige Hall and also were featured on countless television shows and specials. Their 1957 debut release Foggy Mountain Jamboree has been hailed as a masterpiece and in 2012 was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Today, a legion of fans recognize Flatt and Scruggs as one of the premier bands who helped to fuel traditional Bluegrass music into wider acceptance. Hear the music of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs with host Harold Smith, Sunday night at 9 on WHRV.
