Kathy Mattea

Join Barry Graham Sunday night, May 12, on Acoustic Highway to hear musician Kathy Mattea. Kathy Mattea is one of the few artists who have been able to bridge the divide between being labeled strictly as an acoustic singer songwriter or as a country music artist. With two Grammys, multiple CMA Awards and five Gold albums, Mattea is one of Americana Music’s most iconic and beloved figures. The West Virginia native emerged in the 1980s and 1990s with a string of number one country singles. However, her voice began to falter and in a period that she calls “her dark night of the soul” she halted touring and recording while she literally had to retrain her voice to sing again. After a six year hiatus, she released Pretty Bird, a CD that has been hailed as “the most poignant album of her career.” She brings her show to the Sandler Center on June 6.

On May 12, she joins Folk Music Producer Barry Graham on the Acoustic Highway to talk music, her incredible career, and how Pretty Bird signaled a return to singing “for the pure joy of it.” Selections from Pretty Bird and her 2009 Grammy nominated Coal also will be featured.

The Acoustic Highway airs Sunday nights at 9:00 on WHRV FM
