As we hit the ‘half-way-marker’ of 2017, and the days become warmer, changes happen in the schedules and lives of ourselves, and those around the region. Schools have let out for summer break. People spend extra time in the car traveling to events and gatherings; life shifts in a good way. It is summertime!

With that in mind, I am excited to share some news of positive changes, coming to the programming lineup of 89.5 WHRV. These enhancements on air and online meet these seasonal changes in schedule, while still allowing you to go on the website and grab a present or past episode of virtually any of our local and national program offerings that you have enjoyed over the years.

In my 29 years of broadcasting, when “programming changes” were mentioned, for better or not, it was with reluctance. It meant a show or program was gone…forever.

Such is NOT the case anymore.

Thanks to our member-supported website, shows live on “in perpetuity” at www.whrv.org and www.whro.org as one-click, on-demand programs and content that can be “back again” at your command via computer or smartphone device. As The Director of Programming for YOUR radio stations, I have waited 29 years to say this: “We can give everyone what they want!” Wow…that felt good!

In the future, I am pleased and excited to announce we will be seeking to create and offer more locally produced content than ever on WHRO FM and WHRV FM. These offerings come in response to your desires, and hold to the unique pillars of community mission you have trusted us with delivering. I’ll look forward to updating you on these developments soon.

In the meantime, please reach out to me by email or phone anytime. Compliments, comments, concerns — I am “all in” on listening. I’ll look forward to discussing how we can ensure your investment in support returns the greatest of dividends.

Yours in Service,

Chuck Doud, Director of Programming and Audience Strategy - WHROFM - WHRVFM

The following updates take effect on July 1.

Radiolab, A WHRV favorite, will move to Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m.
Radiolab is a show about curiosity. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience. You never know what will happen — but it’s always interesting and engaging radio!

Reveal: Investigative Reporting will air Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.

The mission: Engage and empower the public through investigative journalism and groundbreaking storytelling in order to spark action, improve lives, and protect our democracy. We aired several episodes in a Thursday special this past year to high member and supporter acclaim at WHRV. You asked for more, so more Reveal is coming your way!

Here & Now moves to five days a week, Monday-Friday at 2:00 p.m.

A WHRV member favorite, we were oft asked why Here & Now only aired four days a week. No argument here; we are with YOU on this one. Here & Now reflects the fluid world of news as it is happening in the middle of the day, with timely, smart, and in-depth news, interviews, and conversation.
Science Friday is available online at no charge to our members who do not want to miss it. Listen via our website at www.whrv.org, through the iTunes podcast store, or on the WHRO and NPR ONE apps.

Playing On Air, Third Coast Audio Festival, and A Way With Words will rotate Saturday mornings at 7:00 a.m.

These are arts, cultural, and curiosity-based programs, with storytelling in the mesh and at the core. As you start your Saturday morning, try something new with one of these three shows each week.
Selected Shorts will be available online at no charge to our members who do not want to miss it. Listen via our website at www.whrv.org, through the iTunes podcast store, or on the WHRO and NPR ONE apps.

BBC World News Service Extended 5:00-7:00 a.m., Saturday & Sunday mornings.

Flawlessly written, researched, balanced, objective, and expertly presented. This change speaks to many requests we have had for more BBC coverage.
Humankind ceased production, but is available in an online only variant at this time.
Find more information on our website www.whrv.org, iTunes podcast store, on the WHRO and NPR ONE apps. Please note, availability may be affected as producers decide on the future of the program.
