Pickin' on WHRV pays tribute this week to three legendary bluegrass stars that sadly, we lost in 2021. J.D. Crowe, Sonny Osborne, and Bill Emerson were huge stars in Americana music. J.D. Crowe began his career working with Jimmy Martin before forming his own band which would eventually become known as The New South. Sonny Osborne was one half of the famed Osborne Brothers duo with his brother Bobby. He spent time as a bluegrass boy with Bill Monroe before beginning a 52 year partnership with his brother. Bill Emerson was a founding member of the bluegrass super group The Country Gentlemen. He worked with Buzz Busby, Jimmy Martin, Red Allen and also had a longtime collaboration with Cliff Waldron. Additionally, he was a member of the US Navy Band for 20 years. Three legends who helped to define the genre of bluegrass—tune in for a wonderful remembrance, Sunday night at 7.
