On this week’s Pickin', we feature the quintessential bluegrass duo of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. They emerged from Bill Monroe’s Band in 1948 and quickly became one of the most popular bands ever. They performed together for 20 years including their 1957 masterpiece Foggy Mountain Jamboree. The single "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" was originally issued in 1949 but experienced a huge rebirth in popularity when it was featured in the 1967 movie Bonnie and Clyde. Today, Flatt and Scruggs are recognized as members of the first generation of bluegrass stars who helped to launch the genre. Tune in to hear for yourself why Flatt and Scruggs set a standard that has perhaps never ever been met in bluegrass music.
