Winsome Earle-Sears is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Sears, a Republican, is the first woman to hold that office in Virginia, and the first Black woman and Jamaican-born American elected to a statewide position in the state. In this episode of Watching America, host Dr. Alan Campbell focuses more on Sears’ personality and values than her political outlook.

In this episode, we also hear a segment of Dr. Campbell’s instructive conversation with Nobel Prize-winning economist, Dr. Paul Romer about climate change, what drew him to economics, and his ideas about making progess in society.

If I could persuade people about something, and we could adopt that as our new norm … I frankly would argue for and push for and demand more rigor by experts. - Dr. Paul Romer
