Tedeschi Trucks Band’s “Signs” addresses some of the losses the band has suffered recently among their musical family. Col. Bruce Hampton, who the album is dedicated to, died along with many of their mentors like Gregg Allman, Leon Russell, and Butch Trucks. Sadly, on the day of the album’s release, their keyboard player and multi-instrumentalist Kofi Burbidge died after a long struggle with heart problems.

While the down tempo songs are more plentiful this is not exactly a funeral dirge. They continue to experiment with their rootsy combination of blues, soul, rock and psychedelia. Many of the songs begin slowly, building layers of keyboards, horns, guitar solos until a groove is established and played out.

While the songs evoke the sadness of their personal lives they also recognize the acceptance, strength and hope that come for those experiences. There’s also a couple of songs that use that path to reach political statements about the environment.

On their fourth studio album "Signs" The Tedeschi Trucks Band adds some new ingredients to their musical stew and proves that this 12 piece rock ensemble continues to be greater than the sum of it’s many parts.
