Kwanzaa is an African American and pan-African seven-day cultural holiday that is celebrated every December 26 to January 1. Like most holidays, Kwanzaa incorporates music as an essential element of its celebration. The purpose of Kwanzaa is to celebrate African American heritage, family and community.

This year, WHRO FM will air a series of seven short features, one for each day of Kwanzaa, focusing on the specific principle of the day and elements of the celebration. The segments are hosted by baritone Eric Logan and soprano Kearstin Piper Brown, and produced by WXXI Public Media. The music in the segments is Valerie Coleman’s Umoja, based on the first principle of Kwanzaa – Umoja, or Unity, performed by the Imani Winds.

Tune in at 10:30 each morning from December 26 to January 1!
