WHRV FM

The holidays always bring memories—from childhood and the excitement of Christmas mornings to late night Christmas Eve as a parent assembling toys to festive meals and sharing. We’re happy to create a backdrop for your holiday gatherings while new memories are being made. Tune in all season for countless specials that are perfect to help get you in the holiday spirit.

The traditional Sunday before Christmas program airs this year on December 19 beginning at 6 p.m. with A Celtic Christmas. At 7 p.m. it’s all things holiday bluegrass on Pickin’. Local and regional artists return to the WHRV studio this year to perform original and Christmas classics at 9 and don’t miss the annual WHRO staff mash-up this year tackling the classic “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Jeff Sander takes the helm at 10 for Lost in the Holiday Shuffle and at 11 it’s a classic country Christmas with Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Marty Robbins and other greats of the genre. And at midnight we conclude with our traditional sets of instrumental tunes and acoustic artists performing many beloved seasonal favorites.

Our Friday night hosts are here on Christmas Eve to usher in Christmas Day. Tune in beginning at 7 with Jae Sinnett for a holiday edition of The R&B Chronicles followed by Paul Shugrue and A Shot of the Blues Christmas. At 10, its Lost in the Holiday Shuffle with Jeff Sander. At 11 we celebrate A Cowboy Christmas with the Riders in the Sky gang. And fear not as you wrap those gifts in the early Christmas morning hours, Jae Sinnett will provide a seasonal jazz showcase all night. It’s our musical gift to you. Start making new memories—it’s a wonderful time of the year. Happy Holidays from all of us here at WHRO Public Media.

To wrap up the month, we’ll see out 2021 with our annual broadcast of Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, featuring a gala sequence of opera’s greatest stars, and welcome in 2022 on January 1 with a live broadcast of New Year's Day From Vienna.
