Nathaneil Rateliff has the Night Sweats again and that’s a good thing for all of us. “The Future” is a perfect fusing of the boisterous fervor of his work with the backing band and his more introspective songs from his solo recordings.

The pandemic created a split between Rateliff and the Night Sweats at a time when they were on a roll with the popularity of their raise the roof, soul driving song called “S.O.B.” but they are back together and waste no time getting to their Motown influenced core sound.

The band is able to contribute to Rateliff’s more weightier songs by giving them more heft and swagger. Jenny Lewis’ background vocals add a lot of heart and jubilation to one of the songs.

The blue eyed soul of “The Future” is the perfect showcase the Rateliff’s vocal delivery and his band’s rollicking chops bring it home like few acts today can. It’s a win win.
