My Morning Jacket’s ninth album is a self titled collection of grand musical statements, making up for the long wait of six years between albums when they didn’t know whether they would even be a band again, they still have plenty to say even after over twenty years together.

The band’s lyrical content has often pondered unanswerable questions and they do plenty of that before breaking into one of the three long jams on the album that stretch the runtime to over an hour.

The psychedelic roots of the band are tempered by their ability to branch out and experiment with other styles.

The album was recorded during three weeks of seclusion with vocalist Jim James acting as producer to keep the distractions to a minimum. The focused effort of the band working as a unit has produced their best album in over ten years.
