This year, Thanksgiving falls on the same day as the Feast Day of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music. We’ll celebrate both with warm and joyful music throughout the day this Thursday. In addition to our local programming with your favorite WHRO hosts, we will also offer some special programs for your enjoyment on Thanksgiving Day and over the holiday weekend.
WHRO-FM Thanksgiving Special Program Schedule:
Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22:
9-11 a.m.: Giving Thanks: A Celebration of Fall, Food, & Gratitude, from American Public Media
New for 2018, host John Birge presents a contemporary celebration of gratitude, with classical music and stories of Thanksgiving. This year's “Giving Thanks” also celebrates the Feast Day of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music. Special guests include John Rutter, with a world premiere of his latest choral work, conductor Nic McGegan, and offers a remembrance of former guest and U.S. Poet Laureate Donald Hall.
3-4 p.m.: Giving Thanks to Music with Nadia Sirota, from The WFMT Radio Network
In the 2018 edition of Giving Thanks to Music, host Nadia Sirota, creator of the Peabody Award-winning Meet the Composer podcast, invites several musical artists, many of whom you hear through their recordings each day, to choose a piece of music that illustrates the profound value that classical music has had for them in their lives. As these outstanding people from the worlds of conducting, composing and performance reveal their experiences, they and we give thanks for the music that has enriched our world.
