Jade Bird has a message on her new album “Different Kinds of Light” for those who would pigeonhole her as an Americana artist. She is not who they think she is. The new album incorporates more of her British rock roots on this fifteen track album.

Bird began a bidding war among record labels back in 2019 for her debut album after posting many of the songs on-line. She’s done the same for her 2nd album, releasing many of the songs before it’s official release. Taken as a whole the album is a huge step forward bringing a heavier sound that’s sometime reminiscent of bands like Oasis and Blur.

Ironically she found her rock persona in Nashville with the same producer, Dave Cobb, who worked with her on the first album. Cobb brings the noise level up, complimenting the songs which have dark lyrics set against uptempo dynamics.

Not yet twenty five years old, Jade Bird sings like she’s been around for much longer. She’s tougher and more resilient on “Different Kinds of Light” and in fighting back against stereotypes gives the impression that she’s here for the long haul.
