Opera lovers sometimes speak of the “A, B and C” of opera.  The reference is to three of the most popular operas in the world – “Aida”, “La Boheme” and “Carmen.”  Of the three, Bizet’s masterpiece “Carmen” wins audiences with its abundance of melody and musical color, as well as intense drama and the smoldering passion of the gypsy cigarette girl.  Tune in Wednesday night for the Virginia Opera’s production of “Carmen” and re-discover why this opera is one of the greats.
