This week on Pickin' on WHRV, we will pay tribute to the late Tony Rice. He was considered Bluegrass royalty having played on the ground-breaking JD Crowe and The New South release in 1975. He later worked with Dave Grisman, Norman Blake and Ricky Skaggs. In 1980, he helped found the influential Bluegrass Album Band. Rice passed away on Christmas morning 2020 having left behind a legacy as a musician that helped to shape and mold the genre. We’ll also continue our classic country feature with two of the trail blazing women who continue to perform today: Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. Both helped to carve out a unique and successful niche for women in country music.
