Valerie June’s third album "The Moon and Stars: Prescriptions for Dreamers“ is a concept album about those nocturnal illusions. She says “dreaming keeps me inquisitive and keeps me on the path of learning what I have to share with the world and helps us to have a sort of magic about the way we live.

The album’s ethereal style is often interrupted by bombastic horns and string arrangements and she seems to be changing the mood from one song to the next to show off her musical diversity.

June says about one of the songs on the album ”As a Black woman, (it) makes me think about everything my race has gone through, and how positivity can be its own form of protest,”

Simultaneously earnest and mystical, rustic and slick, soulful and psychedelic, “The Moon and Stars: Prescriptions for Dreamers” has many contradictory sounds but one uniting element; Valerie Junes’s expressive, hypnotic vocal range.
