On February 6, a very unique opera happened at the Williamsburg Regional Library. Opera in Williamsburg teamed up with Opera Piccola of Israel to present a one-woman operatic version of The Diary of Anne Frank, performed in Hebrew with English supertitles. The opera is by 20th-century Russian composer Grigory Frid. The Diary of Anne Frank is his most well-known work, composed in 1968 and premiered in 1972. Despite misgivings with the opera itself, the artistic team put forward an energetic, committed, and passionate effort.

Opera in Williamsburg’s next production is Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute, playing May 5, 7, and 9 at the Kimball Theatre in Williamsburg. It’s a great show for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Tickets and details at operainwilliamsburg.org.
