Get your lawn chairs and blankets ready, we are coming to Chesapeake! On July 18th, WHRO will be at the Chesapeake Food Trucks on The Square. We have compiled some great local musicians from around Hampton Roads, many of whom you may have seen at our Classical Open Mics. We begin our performance at 6:30 p.m., following the Virginia Children’s Chorus who perform at 5 p.m. We have a wide range of great classical music on the program. From cello to toy piano, we will have it all!

This community event started in 2014 as Food Truck Hump Days, and takes place on the first and third Wednesday of every month, excluding July 4th. It was originally held at Battlefield Park, but due to construction, for this year it is being held at the courtyard of City Hall. With the new location it adds more space and has more parking available. There will be plenty of food trucks, so bring an appetite! The event starts at 4 p.m., with free lawn games for the kids. The live music starts at 5 p.m. and will feature musical ensembles from throughout Hampton Roads.

On July 18th, WHRO-FM presents our “Classics on the Courtyard” program as part of this fun family evening. Performers will include Governor’s School for the Arts cellist Maegan Goodmurphy, who has performed for a number of our Classical Open Mics. If you were at the Open Mic in February, you were able to hear Steve Walsh thrill the audience with his toy piano. If you missed it, then you will have another chance to hear him on the 18th! Anna Feucht (vocalist) and Jonathan Spence (violin), both local music teachers, will also be making appearances on the program. Flutist Anne Epperly and clarinetists Shannon Bishop Dooley and Mateo Ayala, members of the USAF Heritage of America Band, will all be performing. We have plenty more up our sleeves, so come out and enjoy the event!

The event is produced by The Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission, Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways History Foundation and the City of Chesapeake Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.
