We’re excited to kick off another year of sharing great classical music with you! Start the New Year on an upbeat note with New Year's Day From Vienna 2021, airing at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 1. The ever-popular annual New Year’s Day Concert will be performed by the Wiener Philharmoniker under the baton of Maestro Riccardo Muti. You'll hear your favorite waltzes, polkas and more – a great way to start off 2021.

This month we’re delighted to begin sharing a virtual chamber music concert series produced by WHRO, highlighting some of our area’s wonderful classical musicians. Video concerts will be premiered each week on the WHRO Public Media Facebook page, and audio recordings will also be shared on A Local Touch. We’ll have pianist Lee Jordan-Anders playing Debussy; the New Commonwealth Quartet with music of Beethoven and Grieg; flutist Debra Wendells Cross and harpist Barbara Chapman presenting a beautiful and eclectic set that ranges from the Baroque era to folk tune settings; guitarist Todd Holcomb with Spanish and Brazilian music by Joaquín Turina and Antônio Carlos Jobim; soprano Anna Feucht performing songs by Jake Heggie and a Bellini aria; and more Beethoven from cellist Rebecca Gilmore and pianist Daniel Lau. Join us online and on air to enjoy exclusive performances from these top-notch local musicians! You can find more details at whro.org/virtualconcerts.

We also have an update to our on air schedule this month. As of January 1, Rebecca Weinstein will begin hosting all of Mid-day Classics, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on weekdays. Anthony McSpadden will still be heard on weekends, hosting Car Tunes on Saturday mornings and Musical Brunch on Sundays. Thank you for listening, and for your fantastic member support, which makes all our programming possible. Happy New Year!
