Bruce Springsteen’s 20th album, “Letter To You” is a true love letter to his fans as he reunites with the E-Street Band for an album recorded live in the studio over a mere four days. It’s what his following has always wanted and he delivers in spades.

The songs are hefty, many over six minutes long. After experimenting with countrypolitan sounds on his last album he’s rockin’ again with bashing drums, soaring Hammond organ and crunching guitars.

Now over 70 years old Springsteen has felt the pain of losing friends and bandmates and that theme is what fuels this set of new compositions and some updates of older songs never before released. He never sinks to the depths of morbidity but instead turns these ruminations into celebrations of how great it feels to be alive.

Since he can’t tour with the E-Street Band, Bruce Springsteen has done the next best thing; he’s brought them together to channel the emotions of a live concert with the thrill of the communal elements that made those shows so special. “Letter To You” has a shared warmth that resonates long after it’s over.
