That’s right, now you can listen to any radio show on WHRV 89.5 with Amazon’s virtual assistant, Amazon Echo, otherwise known as the female voice “Alexa”. This voice activated device connects to the internet and sets up calendar reminders, plays music, as well as other tasks. In a day of new technology, we thought it best to embrace change and make it easier for our listeners to access our radio shows, wherever and whenever (as long as there’s Wi-Fi).

“As our listeners embrace new ways to consume news, and virtual assistants become part of our daily life, it is critical to meet our audiences wherever they are by extending our reach, relevance and accessibility, and continue to bring the latest local, national and world news and perspectives, as well as cutting edge alternative music and jazz right to their smart speakers," says WHRO's Online Media Officer Dina Richards.

Because we know that life is complicated, and sometimes, you just want to listen to your favorite radio station — simply say “Alexa, play WHRV Radio” to listen live. You can listen to current events: “Alexa, play the latest news from NPR” and even listen to your favorite podcasts: “Alexa, play [insert podcast name] podcast”. For example, “Alexa, play CD of the Week podcast." Now you can instantly access all your favorite shows, effortlessly.

Gone are the days of scrambling for your phone or trying to juggle cooking, yard work or whatever you’re doing, in order to tune in. We made it easy for you to support what you love, hands-free.

So what are you waiting for? Check us out on Amazon’s Alexa, the new place to listen to WHRV, from the comfort of your own home.
