This week, Pickin' on WHRV features the music of the Bluegrass Album Band. Originally formed in 1981 by JD Crowe and Tony Rice, the group ultimately released six albums and is regarded as one of the early Bluegrass super groups whose members became major stars in the genre. Ironically, the band members first organized as the studio musicians for a Tony Rice album. Upon hearing the unique and dynamic collaboration between them, label executives quickly put the Rice project on hold and instead recorded the group as a full band. Today, the Bluegrass Album Band is regarded as one of the finest Americana bands to ever record and perform together. You can hear the music of the Bluegrass Album Band, Sunday night at 7:00 on Pickin'.
