Norfolk's minor league baseball team will temporarily become the Norfolk Lumpia for its April 8th game against the Gwinnett Stripers.

The promotion is part of a celebration of the region's Filipino-American community.

Hampton Roads is home to around 40,000 Filipino-Americans, one of the largest Filipino communities in the nation.

The team usually known as the Tides will sport jerseys and caps featuring the signature Filipino dish on Filipino-American Heritage Day at Harbor Park.

Grammy-winning producer Chad Hugo of Virginia Beach will throw the first pitch. He’s most famous as one half of The Neptunes with Pharrell Williams.

Filipino food vendors including It’s All Good Food, Flippin’ Hangry and Angie’s Bakery will be on hand to sling a wide array of Filipino cuisine.

The evening with also feature a pre-game showcase of Filipino culture.

And the team says lumpia will now be on the menu at the ballpark permanently.
